Mom's birthday cake

Well, here it is, my Mom's birthday cake! I used this recipe for the carrot cake and found this blog for the decorating part. I thought it was so beautiful I wanted to see if I could do it. Next time I do this technique I want to use a different color or type of frosting like chocolate! My mom loved it and I was honored to make her a birthday cake.

The decorated cookie

I found this blog called the decorated cookie. She is amazing! So many fun ideas and recipes. Take a moment and go check it out!

Stay tuned for more pie!

Just to let you know, I did try a new cupcake recipe last week. I found a recipe for making a box cake mix dense. Well, it made it dry. Not what I expected! Then I added chocolate chips and yes cadbury eggs. That helped a little but the recipe needs more tweaking. So, I will keep trying! In the meantime, I am going to try a lemon blueberry pie recipe. So, stay tuned my faithful followers! There will be more pie to drool over soon :)

Want some pie?

It was so fun to make this pie! It was easy, and I put my own twist on it. I have to say, it was good :) My daughter told me "this is the best apple pie I've ever had". That made all the hard work worth it! Everyone loved it. I even made the crust. I didn't use the one in the book, I used my mom's because I know how to make it and it's yummy.

This book was easy to follow and leaves room for your own imagination. The only spice they call for is cinnamon. So I decided to jazz it up by adding nutmeg and cloves. It turned out pretty yummy if I do say so myself. So, it may not seem like a big deal, but this is the very first pie I have made all on my own. If you want to learn how to make pie, I would definitely recommend this book, it is easy to follow and has simple ingredients nothing crazy that you probably don't already have in your cupboards. Enjoy!

Peel Apples

Then cut them

Add your spices

Make and roll out your dough

Put the dough in the pan and put in filling

Bake and then....enjoy!

Melting Snowman Cookies

I found these cookies on this website they were so cute I wanted to try and make them. I had the kids help me too. We had a lot of fun making them :) They are super easy to make, not cookie cutter required! Just grab some cookie dough and make it into a misshaped circle then bake. When your cookies have cooled, put on the "melted snow" (thin frosting). Then put some marshmallows on a plate in the microwave for about 10 sec. Then put the marshmallow on top of your frosted cookie and give him some personality!

We made these for my Dad. It's his birthday at the end of December, so we thought these would be fun to give him. He loved them!
